The Night of the Log knives led to the murders of 400 people without trial, including the previous chancellor, a Nazi with similar ideals to Rohm and 150 key members of the SA.

It soon became clear that Hitler was simply killing those that stood in the way of his power.

In addition to this, the SA was placed under Hitler's control, and limited in purpose and power.
